A New Horizon: Leaving California

Leaving Las Vegas…

Wait, no. That’s not right. Leaving California… There we go.

There is a lot to accomplish before I can make my move to Vail, but i’m hoping to document the process here. I originally purchased this domain in the hopes of posting some of my original works, be they writing, designing or just general DIY stuff. My hobbies have evolved to even include a small greenhouse, and a bookshelf full of propagation boxes. Some basic woodworking was on my list of things I wanted to get into, but I never was able to clear out the space to get it started. Despite buying many basic tools. Maybe I’ll get the chance to tinker with that when I get to Vail.

My goals when I get to Vail are still very broad. But if things work out like I hope, they all basically have the same starting point. From there i’ll be able to adapt and adjust as needed. All else fails, I can always fall back into another 9-5, and enjoy the lower cost of living. But of course that isn’t Plan A.

Plan A, is to start a small business. Potentially selling plants and 3D printed items, while I work on developing my writing. My writing I think was much stronger before, but I haven’t been working on it, and leaves a lot to be desired. Hence dusting off the cobwebs with “blog”.

But regardless, if printing and or growing ends up being lucrative there is no reason to not continue to grow those elements, pun intended. I have also enjoyed where those two elements intersect, sometimes more naturally, but I tend to force it at times.

For example this is a 3D printed pot.

All of these square pots were also printed, again very likely not cost effective but these first two were examples forcing an intersection.

The above was slightly more practical or at least interesting to me, a basic plant trellis in the shape of my logo. Stay tuned to see if I actually get anything to grow on it.

Above is probably one of my favorite examples of 3D printing being used to solve practical problems. The light the came with this small greenhouse, was not what I was hoping for based on the description, and the way it mounted was terrible, just came with two lengths of chain as show in the first photo. In the end I was able to make some basic hooks to mount a much better light for the plants.

Anyhow I think that’s enough rambling for one day. To be continued…
